Trials of Eyeliner

Comes across all shy and coy, just another nancy boy

The Second Life inventory is a funny thing. At once a wealth of options as well as a bottomless pit of flotsam. It seems like it doesn’t matter how I organize it, I can NEVER find what I’m looking for when I want it. I may remember every aspect of the item- except the name or who made it. Without one of those two things, finding something in your inventory is like a demonic game of needle in a haystack.

The fun side of it is that when someone throws a “Cyberpunk” event.. all those items in your inventory that you thought you’d probably never get to use but you bought because you thought they were great finally get to see the light of day.

Luckily for me, and I’m sure many other bloggers as well, we have the advantage of going back in our blogs for a few pieces that we know we’ve worn in a blog before and find them that way.

One of the things I’ve always prided myself in is the fact that I very rarely wear any complete outfits out of the box. I’ve mix and matched my entire SL existence with everything across the map. Its more fun that way. Kinda freeing really.

There’s a lot of folks who swear by the “MESH ONLY!” philosophy that old sculpts and system layer clothing has no place in 2015 Second Life. I’m pretty sure I’ll be arguing against that fact until the day I stop logging into SL.

I don’t claim to be an expert and there are certainly a lot of stylists who are miles better than me at putting together modern outfits, but I would just say this: if you like something, don’t throw it away just because it is an older bit of technology. Lots of things will be able to complement, accent and add to a look regardless of when it was made.

Keep your minds open and utilize everything at your disposal. Even if, y’know, you’re wearing so much that you can’t even attach a hud to adjust your ears without taking off something else because you’ve used all of your attachment points.
