Getting back into the Shopping and Photoing and Blogging boat after a long absence is a lot like warfare; especially when you come back just a scant few days before the Dark Style event.
So I stripped off everything, donned a 100% invisible alpha layer, and spent about 20 minutes over lunch hitting those two buttons over… and over… and over “Teleport” (Region full, Try Later) and “Close” “Teleport…” While waiting to rez, three or four people at least popped into the sim with so much mesh on, the sim rezzed before they did. I still don’t understand why folks insist on going to packed events decked out to the nines. You can’t wear your AO hud anyway because the ‘You’re wearing too many scripts’ kicker is going to boot you if you don’t take it off so why dress to the nines in items most people probably won’t see anyway just so you can duckwaddle across a sim in lag soup?
Stupid questions, I know, but hey, I’ve been gone awhile. Isn’t there a six month window on being able to bitch about things again? I hope so, because the first topic on my list is a bitch fest about the lack of items for the male population. Out of all of those stores, I could count on my fingers the number of them which had items for men. And most of those items were unisex.
The usual stars shone as always, however. Razor and R3VOLT didn’t disappoint. And here is where Nigel makes a startling and deliciously wonderful discovery. But before I get to that wonderful discovery (and thus keep you reading to find out what it is, all part of my dastardly plan, natch), lets talk about this jacket from R3.
Beautiful shading, tangible material and realistic movement have always been at the top of my list of what I look at when looking at mesh clothes. Yes yes, does it fit without having to drastically alter my shape is number 1 still, but the other three are what makes a purchase. I’ll apologize for the dark of the photo- feedback encouraged. In world it was bright and looked great- in photoshop it was suddenly super dark. When I look at it here in WordPress, it looks light again so I’m not sure which is accurate and whose gamma needs to be reset.
But back to the jacket… ermagherd. I love it! I can wear either the Medium or Large and not look weird so it works great with a variety of mesh pants and system pants both that I wear regularly. Definitely a plus in this world of layered mesh and finding the sizes that work together without bleeding into one another.
The Baphomet Horns were another immediate purchase from the always incredible Remarkable Oblivion. What I love about that store is its full of things you’ve seen before- the concepts of most of their pieces aren’t new. They’re what you wish you always had when you bought that item last year. That isn’t to say that they’re not original, creative pieces. I don’t mean that at all. The work is exquisite to be sure. Its just the Steve Austin(tm) Effect: Better, Stronger, Faster. Boo-ya.
So back to my delightful discovery and how it relates to the wonder that is Razor. Razor almost always has something I want when I get to events where they’ve put out something new. And from the “First Time For Everything” files, it was a mesh item for women… that actually fit. See, I’ve been hunting for something in leather with buckles and straps (You know, the meat of my inventory) for my legs. I love a lot of the leggings, or “leg warmers” as I see them called quite a lot, that are out there being made for women. I’ve tried dozens of demos but none of them ever fit the much larger male thigh. Ever.
And thus the amazing discovery? Razor’s Rogue Legwarmers come in four sizes: Thick Cute/Normal Phat, Standard Fitted, Cute Azz, and Phat Azz. So to accommodate the ladies who wear the phat azz products, he’s made larger sizes for larger thighs. I think you can tell where I’m going with this already. Yes, the Phat Azz size fits the male thigh! Glory days, hallelujah, blessed are those that take a chance on women’s items. To be 100% transparent, a few poses makes the thigh pop out in the back but if I lowered my leg size a bit it wouldn’t. Or alternatively, I just put on some black leather trousers to cover the minor glitch. They look great with bare feet or boots. Of course I tried both. And several.
So I tossed the creator an IM just let him know that hey, these work for men! Day of Days! And the little blue box of joy popped up with matching mesh gloves. Now when I say matching, I don’t want you to think that they’re just black- oh no- the Foe Gloves XXX comes with a color changing HUD that allows you to change the buckles, main glove and insert colors and patterns independently. 15 color/pattern options for each part. Want them hot pink? Go for it. Me, I’ll stick with black.
I think they’re an amazing match, personally. In addition to all the colors, they also come in 5 sizes both for system hands and Slink hands. They’re available for men and women.
Normally at these fairs, its amazing if I find 1 thing for men. Finding several items is a windfall. Happy Nigel.
