Its true, I’ve been gone a *really* long time by Second Life standards. Hell, by most people’s standards, really!
It started in September with the destruction of my kitchen at home due to a water leak from my upstairs neighbor. And it all went to hell from there. Between fighting with three (not one, not two.. no no.. three!) insurance companies, a general contractor whose project manager was a complete airhead, and the San Francisco permit and inspection policies, I damn near tore all my hair out. To compensate, I’ve spent a majority of my time NOT in my home. Some for vacations- lots of trips out to Vegas for concerts and general debauchery- but mostly for work. I’ve logged almost 47k airmiles in the last 2 months alone. Its finally… finally coming to a close and I have some room to breathe. As I type this on my lunch break, the guys are in my kitchen putting up the sheetrock. I may actually have a kitchen by the end of the month. I’m so excited I can hardly stand it. You have NO idea.
Or maybe you do.
I missed my 8th Rez day by a few weeks. It was at the end of last month. One of the more recent downsides to my job is that we can no longer put personal programs on our work laptops. So no more SL on the work machine from one hotel or another at the end of the day while traveling. It used to be quite the relaxing way to wind down. Take a few pictures, do a little shopping, maybe try building if the lag soup wasn’t too bad on the hotel wireless. (Ha!) To compensate, I saved up some pennies and bought a very light tablet that would run personal programs and games to take with me on my many travels. Of course, it arrived and had a hardware issue so has been sent back. I’m supposed to get it back, y’know, sometime.
There are times when I think I pissed off the wrong deity or made sacrifices to a now out-of-favor demon.
So for now, the plan of record is to spend a few weeks cleaning my inventory and getting it organized so I can find things again as well as get rid of all of the old, outdated, absolute crap that is hogging up a ton of it. Once that’s complete, I’ll finish up / change some of the sim and open it again so folks can hang out if they wish. It would be nice to have people in again. I have this city center thing which is completely empty but perfect for events. Who knows.
It always seems like a completely new world when I come back from an extended absence. Its refreshing.
I’m looking forward to reconnecting with friends and loved ones. And hopefully meeting some new ones.
