Unless you’ve been living under a rock, and I don’t think you have because I would have seen you at the meetings, then you know Second Life’s Tenth Anniversary is coming up soon. As part of the celebrations, a 10th Anniversary Mesh Linden Bear Avatar is available from Linden Labs free on the Marketplace. Linden Labs is doing an official Snapshot contest featuring the Bear Avatar. I’m not entering the contest, but I did get this silly image in mind and couldn’t resist.
While I am not showing its best features, the bear is Materials Ready and looks pretty damned awesome in the Beta Viewer. Since I don’t want to lose any more of my inventory, I won’t be logging into the Beta Viewer ever again. Thanks. (mutter, grumble, hand-staple-forehead) But should you have an alt with nothing to lose, go for it. 🙂
While I’ve not participated in the SL10B sim creation or anything, I’ve seen a lot of photos from various people giving out sneakpeaks and I gotta say, I can’t wait to attend this year. Some of the builds are absolutely beautiful and done SO well. The official SL10B Main Stage, built by the amazingly talented folks at Grendels, crosses two sims all on its own. Whiskey Monday got some great sneak peak shots you should check out.
Second Life has come a long way from its creation. In my 7 years, we’ve gone from system hair and shoes to intricately coded, color-changing, hud-driven streaked and styled, rigged mesh hair- shoes with huds that change the style entirely and include mesh-skin-matching feet. Blocky square buildings that couldn’t even have linked opening doors to fantastical castles of mesh and sculpted prims.
Its funny when I read blogposts from newer members of SL complaining about how bad something is, I want to transport them back to 2006 and watch them freak out in a Ruth body when their inventory won’t load. Its all about perspective, really. But it does make me laugh. Of course, I usually then promptly march uphill, both ways, in a snowstorm to the nearest old folks home.
SL10B starts on June 16th and runs to June 29th. The Official Linden Lab Photo Contest runs until June 30th.
See you there!
