Trials of Eyeliner

Comes across all shy and coy, just another nancy boy

the leaves fall quickly
its hard to nurture alone
will you add color?

Berry posted her weekly Blogger challenge and I struggled a bit with this one. I’ve always loved Haiku so when I initially read the “Sum up your SL Life in a single haiku” I thought, “Well, damn, awesome! I love Haik— oh crap…”

The nature aspect of Haiku has always been what I love about them. Finding a spiritual meaning within a season. Who knew, Nigel ocasionally has deep thoughts- just like Jack Handy. (10 points for the reference).

One thing I will say is as I finally wrote this one, the photo instantly came to mind. That part was easy. For me, anyway, if something written can instantly give me a visual- you must be doing it right.

Or I’m an egomaniac.

And speaking of imagery, Berry’s original image with her Haiku is just astounding. The simple elegance and beauty. I really liked the stark white of the image- which I’m sure helped inspire why I went all white with mine. At least in part.

“So Nigel,” you ask, “why such a downer of an image, dude? You’re like, always so chipper unless, y’know, you’re ranting about something on your blog and making me choke on whatever I’m drinking at the time.”

Yea, I am. But it does say, “Sum up your SL Life…” As I’ve mentioned in previous posts, I used to run 4 sims with the partner I had at the time. He had a massive family and we waxed and waned. For many years, I would log in and get absolutely nothing done because my IMs would light up to the point it would take me two hours or more just to get through those conversations; everyone needed something, wanted something, or just needed to say hi. As our family waned, the islands were sold one by one, and then finaly my partner and I split, (add in there being offline for two international moves thanks to my RL Day Job) I retreated to find some peace and quiet when I returned to SL so I could build and enjoy the solitude I could never get before. But as the English Proverb says, “The Grass is Always Greener…”

Most of the time I am building by myself, or doing photography, or just hanging out with a small group of people. I’ve been told I’m hard to approach and overbearing. But if you ask me, I think I’m pretty damned laid back about most things- unless I get riled on a particular thing. Perception, yadda yadda. I’m not shy- but I tend to keep my mouth shut until I get to know people because I always think I’m either going to sound like a bloody idiot or railroad any conversation and dominate it. I’m an INTP (That’s Introverted, Intuitive, Thinking, and Perceiving for those of you have haven’t had the bliss of doing the Myers-Briggs) AND a Leo- and while I don’t adhere to many stereotypes, it isn’t called a stereotype for nothing.  Watch as Nigel is the quiet one in the corner… until you get his attention. Then look out.

So anyway- there’s my SL Life haiku.

IM me sometime.

p.s. Don’t forget to do one yourself! If you do, link back to Berry’s thread and share with others.

  1. Petra Carpenter says:

YOU also had that massive family. Not everyone was there because of him…just reminding you.
And see that was one reason I didn’t like to IM you back then because everyone else did. You should try IM me sometimes these days Mr! :-p

    1. I can indeed think of at least one specific person who wasn’t there because of your partner (and who indeed, didn’t stick around through thick and thin because of him, either). So yeah, Petra’s quite correct, Mr. INFP.

      1. Yes, yes. 🙂 Lets not bash.

But your point is taken. And despite how the image comes across, I assure you, I’m still quite chipper and it is in no way a “oh poor me”. Quite the opposite. We are as we make our environment. I needed some peace and quiet- and I got it. Now I want some more noise! 🙂

      2. (out of sequence reply) Whoops: crud, that wasn’t meant as bashing at all, Nigel, just as ‘I turned up, and stuck around, because of you’. I can see how it can easily read otherwise, though. My apologies for being unclear!

  2. Rwah says:

one word or better a sound. ‘wow’

  3. peepsideshow says:

    Amazing image
    Awestruck with wonder and joy
    And sees art in words

  4. Stunning picture and what a thought provoking poem. Brilliantly done and thank you so much for the kind words. ❤
